Top 10 Counties with Best and Worst Performing Agriculture Economies of 2014: Yakima-WA Creates Most Agriculture Jobs; Ventura County-CA Loses Most

Recently released data show that agriculture job creation in 2014 across counties in the US varied from a high of 2,300 in Yakima County-WA (Yakima) to a loss of 1,100 jobs in Ventura County-CA (Oxnard). Job numbers include only salaried positions.

Out of more than 1,500 counties with agriculture economies, the Top 5 job creators also included Monterey County-CA (Salinas), Santa Barbara County-CA (Santa Maria), Lee County-FL (Cape Coral), Cumberland County, NJ (Vineland).

Agriculture job losses were led by Ventura County-CA (Oxnard), Highlands County-FL (Sebring), and Polk County-FL (Lakeland).

Job creation in the Agriculture sector in the US has rebounded since the recession. In the last 5 years, the sector grew 8% and created 88,000 new jobs. The sector currently employs 1.2 million people in the US.
